Loving Art at the Cleveland Museum of Art

The Cleveland Museum of Art is one of the top comprehensive art museums in the nation and a leader in digital innovation. Located in University Circle, this museum is free to the public and is an excellent place to visit for anyone looking to get out of the house and enjoy some art. Learn more in Cleveland, Ohio.

Its large size makes it difficult to see everything in a day, but the museum is very clean and you'll have a great time even if you're not an art aficionado. The kids will enjoy the interactive area where they can swipe their hands on a wall to learn more about different artists and works of art.

My favorite part of the museum is their collection wall which is a 40-foot interactive wall that features all sorts of pieces from various artists throughout history. My tween daughter loved this area and could swipe her hand to see more about any art piece she wanted to know more about.

Loving and the Abstract Painting Movement

When Alvin Loving was a student in the 1920s, he found himself a bit conflicted with his artistic style. While he considered himself an abstractionist, he felt that his squares in his paintings represented something he wanted to communicate with his community. He also felt that he needed to contribute to a larger art historical narrative.

This conflict ultimately prompted him to change his style. He stopped using squares as his subject and began painting with strips of colored canvas. He would then sew the strips together and tack them on to the wall, creating his own style of painting. This was the beginning of his transition into hard-edge abstraction, and he eventually embraced his new style.

The Cleveland Museum of Art is a wonderful place for families to take a trip, and the fact that it is free to all visitors is a huge plus! It is a great place to spend a whole day and I recommend it for families with kids of all ages!

It's also an excellent place to bring a family on a school field trip. The staff is friendly and happy to answer questions about the artwork.

They have an extensive children's section and a nice cafe! There is also a gift shop for souvenirs and books.

You can also check out their special exhibits. They have a variety of exhibits that are going on throughout the year so you can find something to fit your interests and your family's needs. I especially liked the Tiffany in Bloom exhibit as it featured beautiful stained glass pieces.

My son really enjoyed visiting the museum as well. He is a history buff and loved seeing all the different Presidents that are displayed. He was particularly interested in the painting called "George Washington at the Battle of Princeton 1779" by Charles Wilson Peale. He said this one was a lot like the President he was learning about on President's Day. Learn more about The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo aka Cleveland Zoological Park
