Getting There

The Cleveland Botanical Garden and Holden Arboretum are both located in University Circle near the Cleveland Museum of Art and Cleveland Museum of Natural History. They are easily accessible by car, bike and public transportation, with a free Circle Link shuttle to the garden entrance. You can also park for $6 per vehicle in the garage at the University Circle Center.

At the Cleveland Botanical Garden, you’ll find the Betty Ott Talking Garden, a sensory garden that engages the senses of touch and smell. Visitors can also visit the Japanese Garden, a traditional formal garden whose design and architecture evokes a serene, ancient and faraway landscape.

During the holiday season, A Garden Holiday transports you into a magical wonderland of colorful holiday plants and trees from evergreen conifers to poinsettias in shades of white, pink and red. Popular traditions return, including dozens of trees decorated by more than 30 affiliate garden clubs from northeast Ohio and candy-coated gingerbread houses assembled by bakers from across the community.

The holiday season is the perfect time to visit The Cleveland Botanical Garden for photos in front of a beautiful 16-foot live white fir (Abies concolor) that’s been beautifully decorated by a local artisan. The Ellipse also features community-decorated gingerbread houses.

A visit to The Cleveland Botanical Garden is a great way to get in the holiday spirit, and it’s a perfect place to find a one-of-a-kind gift for the nature lover on your list! Be sure to check out the Garden Store, which offers a variety of gift baskets and other gifts from the Garden.

New Playspace For Children

The Cleveland Botanical Garden recently opened a new Perennial Playspace that is designed to be an immersive experience for children of all ages. It overlooks the garden’s Glasshouse exhibits, providing an overhead view of the lush, towering plant life of Costa Rica rain forest on one side and the dry arid plant life of Madagascar on the other.

In addition to the new space, there are other educational activities and interactive stations geared toward motivating young guests to learn more about their environment. A Magnification Station allows children to view various plant samples under magnifiers that reveal new and exciting details, while the Sensory Studio includes a Collaboration Tree where children can create their own plant-inspired art.
